Frank Ocean | Wisemen

“Frank Ocean wrote a fantastic ballad that was truly lovely and poetic in every way, there just wasn’t a scene for it. I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that’s not why he wrote it and not his intention. So I didn’t want to cheapen his effort. But, the song is fantastic, and when Frank decides to unleash it on the public, they’ll realize it then.”

— Quentin Tarantino explaining why he didn’t use the song in “Django Unchained.”

Yohji Yamamoto Y’s for Men

He lives in a highrise condo in Nakameguro, and true to his design-related work, his apartment looks like a catalog for an interior decor shop. “I enjoy cleaning,” he tells his duly impressed girlfriend. Originally he was a diehard fan of Luna Martino (the brand Takeshi Kaga wore on Iron Chef so long ago!) When he was still in design school, he wore the designer faithfully as his everyday outfit until the delicate stitchery practically fell apart, so now he only has a very few of his very favorites. Though from years back, he also began collecting Yohji Yamamoto and Y’s for Men, some forty tops in all. For trousers, he special-ordered several pairs of the same style from Luna, which he’s worn every day in rotation until utterly threadbare. Now with only two pairs left and the brand long since disappeared, each day he wonders what to do. He first took interest in Yohji after reading a magazine interview with Yamamoto. He trotted over to the shop for a look, and was completely taken by the beautiful silhouettes. “The scooped curve around the body was so distinctive.” He doesn’t collect so very much, but he does have a few variations on the same particularly favorite designs in his closet, gleamed from everywhere all over Japan. And in case you want to know, his curtains are Yamamoto’s Y’s for Living brand. After Yohji and Y’s, he’s begun chasing down work by Nada Noda for yet more things to fill up his space. He’s got drawings and figurine series and even the artist’s Imaginary Pregnancy Kit. Can’t stop now, this avid collector spares no time or expense when there’s something he’s out to get.”

" Thom: Really? That’s interesting. That’s really interesting that you’d actually get worried about that. It’s pretty pathetic, isn’t it? You’re really ‘Be nice to everybody, nice big grin, shake hands, worry about wasteful packaging, worry whether people are going to break into your home while you’re asleep. You worry about not having written back to fan mail. You worry about what to say to important people. You worry about what to say on stage in front of people. You’re just a worrier. You’re about as intuitive as a brick. You spend half your life worrying, more than half your life. You should fucking get a life, you should be enjoying what you’re doing. Get on with it, enjoy it. Suck it up. All those lovely people being nice to you. It’s what you always wanted. "
